The New Mexico Narcotic Officers Association is an association of approximately 300 members. It was established in 1991, for the purpose of networking and sharing information on new drug trends, safety bulletins, methods of trafficking illegal substances and most importantly, maintaining a network of communication between law enforcement agencies throughout the state of New Mexico.
We are a member of the National Narcotics Officers Associations Coalition (NNOAC). This group based in Washington D.C., is responsible for presenting concerns and representing associations to members of the House of Senate and Congress. The NNOAC is partially responsible for retaining the HIDTA budgets that were presented for cuts by the President’s 2005-2006 budget proposals. The NNOAC is about 60,000 members strong with representatives from about 40 states.
The New Mexico Narcotics Officers Association (NMNOA) presents accredited, advanced, training supported by Southwest HIDTA and the New Mexico Department of Public Safety in Santa Fe, NM, in continuance of updated training and trends.
We encourage all Law Enforcement to become members of The New Mexico Narcotic Officers Association, as it will certainly allow an opportunity for adjoining agencies to train together.
2007 New Mexico Legislation
In the 2007 Legislation, Senator Tim Jennings (Roswell) sponsored Senate Bill 186 that provides $250,000 to the survivors of Officers Killed in the Line of Duty while working in an undercover capacity. Thanks to Tim Jennings and our own Executive Director Chris Jaramillo, Senate Bill 186 has been signed into law. This means that Police Officers around the State of New Mexico are covered with additional death benefits while working in an "undercover" capacity.
In addition, The Fraternal Order of Police assisted in raising the death benefits for Police Officers in general in the State of New Mexico to $250,000. This means that Officers killed in the line of duty who are working in an undercover capacity in the State of New Mexico, are covered for $500,000.
